Above are a two images I have created by digitally layering photographs of a number of drawings of mine! By doing this I feel that I have created 2 pieces that contain a great deal of depth. These pieces display a large variety of shape and line which constantly overlap each other giving the piece a sense of chaos. The lack of empty space also supports the chaotic atmosphere. Each piece has a specific colour theme so it appears strong as a design piece, however both images contain dark tones which give the pieces a threatening appearance.
My designs contained a wide variety in shape so I wondered how these shapes would appear if the were tessellated in a mirror like fashion. Above are a selection of tessellated designs in which I created by tessellating sections of the previous 2 pieces. By doing this it distorts the original designs so that the drawings are not distinctive, however I was able to create a selection of images that are strong in pattern. The tessellations have also seemed to organise the chaos in an attractive manner.
The idea to tessellate my designs was inspired by Amy Sia's tessellations. It showed me how tessellating an image can create a large variety of attractive shapes with symmetrical qualities and I feel as though I have applied this to my designs. This being said, our designs are quite different from each other. Amy Sia's pieces are more attractive to the eye which makes them perfect for design market, however due to the dark tones and dramatic lines, I feel that my designs are more suitable as sombre mood pieces. Personally I feel that my pieces resemble a violent nightmare due to its vast amount of peculiar chaotic shapes. |
