Earlier in this project I discovered and experimented with how to create bold collages by using materials of a bold and solid nature. This style gave my collages a firm stature, however I also wished to create collages which appear much more delicate and these are a range of images of the work I produced.
Unlike the heavy appearing card of my previous collages, I used a much more lighter appearing of fried PVA glue to act as the base for my collages. The transparency and non textured quality of the glue allows the viewer to concentrate only on the shape, texture and colour of the objects I have used in my piece. The glue acts as the thinking space within the composition of the piece.
I felt it was important that the objects I used within my collages shared a similar small scale so that the imagery becomes subtle. I deliberately used only soft colours and tones within the work to keep in touch with the delicate quality of the image. If I were to use any vivid colour in the image, the subtlety of the image would be destroyed. As the piece appeared incredibly smooth with large amounts of untouched space, I included both the skeleton leaves and the lace to the composition as they offer a fine detail and texture to the viewer.

I also began to experiment with this process by adding dyes and printed paper to my work. This took away the subtlety of the imagery but in return created a vivid contrast in tones. By using black dye on a dried PVA glue base, the light toned objects within the collage instantly became more distinguished than the previous collages. While going with the less delicate approach of this piece, I decided to incorporate objects into the work which had a much heavier appearance, such as string. The string created solid bold lines into the work, which easily guides the audiences eyes when viewing the piece. I particularly admire the dashes of soft pinks from the petals as they give the piece a pleasant dash of colour.
